Allan Quatermain, the protagonist of the novel King Solomon’s mines (1885) by H. Rider Haggard (1856-1925), and the ancestor of a lot of fictional adventurers, was played:

in 1937 by Cedric Hardwicke in King Solomon’s mines

in 1950 by Stewart Granger 

in 1985 and 1986 by Richard Chamberlain (with Sharon Stone)

in 2003 by Sean Connery in League of the extraordinary gentlemen 

in 2004 by Patrick Swayze (in a mini-series)

and now Sam Worthington is cast in a sci-fi version of the story
